HOSPITALLER PROJECTS
The Hospitaller activities of the NSW Commandery are focused on a small number of charities selected by the Commandery to provide for the needs of the sick, the poor and specifically the needs of children, both within our community and overseas. The chosen charities to which we currently donate are Westmead Children’s Hospital, the Missionaries of Charity (Mother Teresa Sisters) and Country Hope.
In 2008 the NSW Commandery made a particular donation to the Company of the Good Shepherd and also supplemented individual members’ contributions to the Spafford Children’s Centre in Jerusalem.
Our donations to Westmead Children’s Hospital consist of an annual presentation of gifts for children at Christmas and provide an opportunity to see first hand the needs of the Children’s Hospital and the joy that we in a small part can provide to the children.
The Missionaries of Charity within the Catholic Church provide assistance to the destitute and the lonely in Sydney.
Country Hope is a Riverina based charity which provides help to country families in the situation of sick children. These children very often need to be hospitalized in remote Sydney and help is provided to lessen the associated trauma and costs.
We review our chosen charities annually but try to adhere to a minimum three-year period of assistance. The Hospitaller looks for guidance in selecting these charities from our chaplains.
